The case for doing less in our peer reviews

Reviewing is labor. It is often invisible labor, and it is, depending on your institution, un- or undercompensated labor.And it is fundamentally necessary labor – we must have our papers peer reviewed if we want to pursue academic jobs and promotions. At a time when the scarcity of review labor is a key site that is slowing down that process, what I’m proposing is lowering our expectations of what that labor can deliver.
